Child Protection Policy Statement

Lexis School of English acknowledges its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and is committed to ensuring that safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance, and complies with best practice and British Council requirements.

This policy applies to all staff, homestay providers, group leaders, volunteers and contractors working with students under the age of 18.

The policy recognises that the welfare and interests of children are paramount in all circumstances. It aims to ensure that, regardless of age, ability or disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, or socio-economic background, all children:

• have a positive and enjoyable experience in a safe and child-centered environment
• are protected from abuse and harm at all times

Lexis School of English acknowledges that some children, including those with disabilities or from minority backgrounds, may be more vulnerable, and we take appropriate steps to ensure their welfare.

The school has appointed a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSL who are responsible for safeguarding implementation and responding to concerns.

As part of our safeguarding policy, Lexis School of English will:

• promote and prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children
• ensure all staff understand their safeguarding responsibilities and receive appropriate training
• ensure all concerns are reported immediately to the DSL
• take appropriate and timely action in response to safeguarding concerns, including referral to external agencies where necessary
• maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records
• ensure safer recruitment practices are followed
• ensure robust safeguarding procedures are in place and regularly reviewed

The policy will be widely promoted and is mandatory for all staff. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.

Monitoring

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated in line with:

• changes in legislation or government guidance
• British Council requirements
• significant safeguarding incidents
